On May 1, 2009 the Florida legislature unanimously passed bill CS/CS/HB 1423 to create the Florida Coral Reef Protection Act.The Florida Coral Reef Protection Act enhances FDEPs ability to protect and preserve coral reefs. It provides authority for the recovery of compensatory damages from those responsible for damaging these important natural resources and provides for coral reef restoration.
